FORT MYERS, Fla. (Aug. 26, 2020) – Morris-Depew Associates is pleased to welcome Michael “Mike” Rooks to its team as the company’s director of survey. With more than 25 years of dedicated experience in the Survey industry, Rooks’ highly-detailed logistics and permitting experience in both the public and private sector will bolster the firm’s wide-ranging services, supporting real estate transactions, permitting and entitlements, construction, and more.
Rooks spent the early days of his career in Florida, working as survey/project manager for P&S Paving and managing member of Directional Surveying Services, both in Daytona Beach. He then launched his own surveying and mapping firm in Chattanooga, Tenn. After a stint as a permitting specialist focused on large-haul, cross-country transports for a transportation services provider, Rooks returned to Florida.
“I’d venture to say that I’m a go-to person when it comes to ensuring quality control, having honed an ability to catch errors on the front end in order to minimize the potential for messy or lengthy cleanups of errors on the back end,” said Rooks. “But as much as I love the technical aspects of my work in surveying, what truly drives me is the calling I feel to help coach, develop and mentor my team members. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone be able to progress from struggling to thriving.”
“We’re excited to have Mike join the company,” said Partner and Planning Director Tina Ekblad. “He brings with him experience leading teams and handling complex projects that will be valuable assets to the work we do in throughout Florida.”
Rooks is a member of the Florida Surveying & Mapping Society and National Society of Professional Surveyors. He received his computer-aided drafting and design certification from Chattanooga State Community College and has completed coursework toward a degree in construction management at Miami Dade College.
