Over the years, Historic Preservation has proven an important tool to leverage and focus community and economic development. This approach has resulted in the creation of National, State, and local historic districts, promoting the preservation and restoration of historic buildings and properties. These efforts often result in increases in residential and commercial property values, job opportunities and tourism due to continuance promotion of historic community character, whether by preserving or restoring a historic site.
While the process of restoration and redevelopment within a Historic District can be laborious due to the various nuanced and sensitive layers of regulations governing a historic location, the benefits are significant not just for property value, but for enhancing the overall community makeup.
